This is a blend of fruit from all the vineyards the Davies family sources from, from Calistoga down to Coombsville. The nose is deeply fruited, with kirsch and espresso bean, complemented by a lovely redwood bark character. Full-bodied on the palate, with plump, sweet-spiced tannins layered with dark cacao, a hint of cumin, sandalwood, and dried Bing cherry, all carrying through to a long and satisfying finish. - Decanter, January 2025

'We look at all the estate Cabernet Sauvignon blocks', says Celia Welch, 'and find maybe our best 810 barrels to keep separate'. Aged for about 30 months in primarily new French oak, this wine offers remarkable silkiness and concentration. Rich black currants, blackberry fruit, and cedarwood spice form a polished core, with layers of pine forest, forest floor, deep currant and kirsch fruit. The tannins are supremely fine and seamlessly integrated after extended time in barrel, finishing with classic caramel and toffee spice notes, along with a hint of dark cocoa, cacao nibs, fig, and pressed wildflowers. It is a wine of both density and freshness wrapped into one generous and utterly delectable package. - Decanter, January 2025

A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2021 J. Davies Jamie comes from the family estate vineyards on Diamond Mountain. Haunting fragrances of sage and violet mark the nose, joined by black cherries and cassis, while the full-bodied palate is wonderfully expansive yet silky, concentrated and flavorful without showing any heaviness or alcoholic heat, despite weighing in at 15.4% alcohol. The finish boasts ample structure and texture, folding in hints of licorice and dried spices. The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Jamie is silky, elegant and super-refined. Crushed red berry fruit, spice, blood orange, mint and a kiss of French oak are all beautifully delineated. This is one of the most structured and elegant wines in the J. Davies lineup, which I tasted with winemaker Celia Welch. It carries power and density of fruit weight, with a wealth of seductive red- and black-toned fruit wrapped in tobacco leaves dusted with dark cacao powder. A salty minerality fuels the full-bodied finish, while the wine builds in intensity, lingering long on the palate. - Decanter, January 2025

The Davies Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a sure bet. Rich and bold, it shows saturated black fruit character with fine sandalwood, baking spice, and new cedarwood, all perfectly wrapped into a medium- to full-bodied red. Graceful tannins frame plump, juicy fruit, while savoury mineral tones and a touch of cocoa linger on the finish. - Decanter, March 2026

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley incorporates fruit from nine of the region's sub-AVAs in a blend that includes 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Malbec and 2% each Merlot and Petit Verdot. After 22 months in 55% new French oak, it has emerged with vaguely herbal nuances, plus plenty of ripe cherries, dusty loam and dried spices. It's medium- to full-bodied, creamy-supple and easy to drink-not as structured as the Diamond Mountain stuff from Davies-but still not overly soft. This superb value should drink well for a decade or so and be reasonably easy to find, with 2,450 cases produced. - Wine Advocate, May 2026
