With great enthusiasm, we present this one-of-a-kind late disgorged offering of our 2004 J. Schram. From the inception of Schramsbergs efforts in 1965, the winery has sought to achieve the greatest elegance and individuality possible in our sparkling wines. Our J. Schram bottlings epitomize Schramsbergs philosophy to craft wines in which no effort has been spared and no care has been omitted.
With 17 years of contact on the yeast in the bottle, in our historic Diamond Mountain caves, the 2004 J. Schram Late Disgorged has developed exquisite richness, depth and complexity. Extensive aging en tirage enables savory, nutty and seasoned attributes to evolve with fruitful caramelization, density and creaminess on the palate.
More than 120 cool-climate vineyard sites in Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and the Marin coastal areas are farmed each year to achieve the best possible fruit for our sparkling wines. Hand-picking, early-morning harvesting, and light pressing of the grapes are critical for maintaining juice quality. A small amount of select Pinot Noir is included in the primarily Chardonnay blend, bringing a fruitful roundness to the palate. Distinct barrel and malolactic fermentation lots are then layered in to provide viscosity and depth, prior to the wine going to bottle for its long rest within the caves. Following secondary fermentation within the bottle, the yeast within slowly break down through a process called autolysis, imparting a richness and complexity that can only be achieved through years of patience. Now 18 years after these grapes were first harvested, we release this outstanding bottle of wine for your enjoyment.
In 2004, bud break occurred earlier than many vintners could remember and the trend carried forward throughout the growing season. Heat spikes occurred in June and at scattered intervals throughout the summer season. Grapes completed veraison early, leading to an end of July start to harvest. Temperatures were relatively moderate in the mid-season, allowing for high acid retention in the fruit. Grape quality was quite high with a crop that was smaller than average.

From the inception of Schramsbergs efforts in 1965, the winery has sought to achieve the greatest elegance and individuality possible in our sparkling wines. The Reserve is our top Pinot Noir-focused brut sparkling wine made each year. With the original release of this 2004 vintage sparkling wine in February 2012, this offering was aged over six years on the yeast. For this late disgorged release, we held back a limited number of bottles to receive an additional 11 years of yeast contact within our historic Diamond Mountain caves, affording the development of seasoned flavors, toastiness and caramelized richness.

Originally released as our J. Schram, with the 2013 vintage this bottling was renamed the J. Schram Blancs to denote this wines Chardonnay-based core. From the inception of Schramsbergs efforts in 1965, the winery has sought to achieve the greatest elegance and individuality possible in our sparkling wines. J. Schram Blancs epitomizes Schramsbergs philosophy to create a wine in which no effort has been spared and no care has been omitted. Representing only 2-3% of the winerys annual production, the Chardonnay-focused J. Schram Blancs blend is assembled from the very best base wine lots of the approximately 300 produced each year. This special bottling is dedicated to Schramsbergs founder, Jacob Schram, and has been a great success since its premier 1987 vintage was released in 1992.
Cluster samples from over 115 cool-climate vineyard sources are pulled several times before the optimal pick date for each block is selected. Complexity within the wine is gained through both oak barrel and stainless-steel tank fermentation. Additional layers are provided through small lots that undergo malolactic fermentation in barrel, enriching aromas and infusing creaminess on the palate. Our J. Schram Blancs is aged for eight years on the yeast in Schramsbergs historic Diamond Mountain caves; each bottle is then riddled by hand and finished with an exceptional brut dosage.
J. Schram Blancs is quite appealing on its own as an apéritif or enjoyed with fresh shellfish, caviar on toast point, smoked salmon, sharp cheeses, seafood brochettes, cedar-planked lobster, mesquite-grilled quail, or Serrano ham and porcini risotto.
The 2013 North Coast vintage harvest was an ideal season with dry conditions and a long, sunny summer. Condensed, even and excellent are three words used to describe the growing season. The season began early, with a warm and dry spring, and beautiful weather extended all the way through an early harvest. Yields overall were above average and fruit showed great balance of acidity and sugar, leading to optimal flavor development.

The Schramsberg team and the Davies Family is thrilled to release the first bottling of J. Schram Noirs, our finest Pinot Noir brut offering. For decades labeled as the Schramsberg Reserve, we bottled our special limited Noirs blend in the J. Schram proprietary glass with the 2013 vintage, filling out our ultimate sparkling wine tier with three selections: Blancs, Rosé, and Noirs. Representing 2% of our annual production, this richly flavored and full-bodied sparkler is made from only the finest base-wine lots produced each year. We release this finished sparkling wine nine years after the grapes are harvested, yet this fruitful, dry, toasty and creamy bubbly will age gracefully for decades to come.
Though primarily Pinot Noir, small amounts of select Chardonnay lots are added to the blend to lend additional backbone and length to the palate. Distinct barrel and malolactic fermented lots are also layered in to provide viscosity and depth. Each bottle is aged in contact with its yeast in our historic Diamond Mountain hillside caves for eight years, affording the development of seasoned, roasted and caramelized richness. The yeast is then removed and a finishing dosage, determined through extensive and comprehensive trials, is added to fine-tune the wines balance of flavor and structure.
J. Schram Noirs is well-suited with a main course, such as fruit-stuffed veal, pork tenderloin, roast duck with mango, cedar-plank grilled salmon, and curried chicken salad. This flavorful sparkling wine can also be served as an apéritif with smoked oysters, caviar and such hard cheeses as aged Swiss Sbrinz, Sonoma Vella Jack, or Irish Coolea.

With great enthusiasm, we present this one-of-a-kind, late-disgorged offering of our flagship Blanc de Blancs, blended from our select range of Chardonnay vineyards in Californias North Coast.
The Schramsberg style of Blanc de Blancs is dry and crisp. Small lots of barrel fermented wines, some of which complete malolactic fermentation, are added to the stainless-steel fermented wines to create added complexity in the blended base wine. After undergoing a second fermentation in bottle, the wine has been aged for over 10 years on its yeast lees in our historic Diamond Mountain caves.
Blanc de Blancs (white from white), made from the Chardonnay grape, is the counterpart to the Blanc de Noirs (white from black), which is made from Pinot Noir. Small lots of malolactic and barrel fermented wines are added for complexity. In 1965, Blanc de Blanc became the first wine ever produced by Schramsberg, and was Americas first commercially produced Chardonnay-based brut sparkling wine. Our Blanc de Blancs gained international recognition in 1972 when President Nixon served the wine at the historic Toast to Peace in Beijing, China. With its vibrant, fruitful and focused nature, this sparkling wine will maintain its freshness, structure and refined finish for many years, even decades following its initial release.
While this wine can be enjoyed by itself as an apéritif, it is also perfect with fresh oysters and other shellfish, crab cakes, ceviche and grilled sea bass. Serve with aged Gouda or other hard cheeses, and as a counterpoint to soft triple creams.
The 2011 California winegrape harvest was lighter and later than normal with flavors developing at lower sugar levels, giving winemakers the opportunity to make flavorful, elegant wines. A wet winter and spring delayed bloom and hindered fruit set, which decreased overall crop load. A generally cool summer prolonged the growing season and harvest started late in most areas.

A magnum (1.5-L) of the Schrambserg 2018 Brut Rosé.
Schramsberg Brut Rosé is fruitful, complex and dry, making it both versatile with food and delicious by itself as an apéritif. The character of the wine is most strongly influenced by bright, flavorful Pinot Noir grown along the coast from southern Mendocino County to northern Marin County. A few small lots of Pinot Noir are fermented in contact with their skins to add depth and subtle color to this vibrant sparkling wine. Chardonnay gives spice, structure and length on the palate.
Hand picking, careful handling and gentle pressing produce a wine of delicacy, aromatic purity and depth. Following the fall harvest and fermentation of the base wines, extensive tasting trials are carried out in the spring to create a polished blend reflective of the vintage. The finished blend undergoes a second fermentation in bottle before aging on its yeast lees for about two years, just enough to achieve refined effervescence and toastiness without diminishing its refreshing, vibrant appeal.
Enjoy this rich, delicious sparkler on almost any occasion: at your favorite restaurant, a special dinner at home, at a beach picnic or a backyard barbecue. A very versatile wine; try it with sushi, salmon, rock shrimp, pizza, roast chicken, BBQ ribs, caprese and Panzanella salads, red berry tarts, and an array of cheeses, charcuterie, nuts and fresh fruit.
The long growing season in 2018 revealed a vintage with concentration without being overripe. Despite a warm February, the growing season started off cooler than the past few vintages. A cool spring meant bloom lasted longer than usual, which resulted in a bountiful crop. Summer temperatures were moderate with fewer heat spikes than in recent years. Veraison started later as well, and as a result, harvest started two to three weeks later than in recent years. The resulting fruit exhibited exceptional with depth of flavor noticeable brightness.

Blanc de Blancs (white from whites), made from Chardonnay, is the counterpart to the Blanc de Noirs (white from blacks), made from Pinot Noir. Blanc de Blancs was the first wine Schramsberg produced in 1965 and was America's first commercially produced Chardonnay-based brut sparkling wine. Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs gained international recognition in 1972 when then President Nixon served the wine at the historic "Toast to Peace" in Beijing, China.
The Schramsberg style of Blanc de Blancs is dry and crisp. Small lots of barrel fermented wines, some of which complete malolactic fermentation, are added to the stainless-steel fermented wines to create added complexity in the blended base wine. After undergoing a second fermentation in bottle, the wine then ages on its yeast lees for about two years prior to disgorgement.
It is also delicious with lemon chicken and Thai curries. Serve with aged Gouda or other hard cheeses, and as a counterpoint to soft triple creams.
For the 2017 vintage, abundant winter rains prior to the growing season helped recharge reservoirs and groundwater. Spring weather was cool to mild, with increased vine vigor and extended flowering in some areas. After a summer of heat spikes, harvest started in the beginning of August. Warm days and cool nights throughout harvest encouraged exceptional fruit development while maintaining bright acidity.

The 2020 growing season was cool to moderate for most of spring and summer with heat spells occurring early August, which sped up the ripening of the fruit that was on the vines. Fortunately, the sparkling wine grapes were harvested and safely in tank and barrel prior to the Glass fire and with no impact. Despite the challenges, the vintage looked very promising with high-quality fruit that turned into fantastic sparkling wine.
