2022 "NAPA VALLEY CARNEROS" PINOT NOIR (1 X 750 ML)

The Davies family, of Schramsberg Vineyards and Davies Vineyards in the Napa Valley, is pleased to release its seventh vintage of Napa Valley Carneros Pinot Noir. The familys experience with Pinot Noir dates back to 1967, when Jack and Jamie Davies first used this elegant red varietal to make their inaugural vintage of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine. Over the 57 years following that first use, Schramsbergs winemakers have built long-lasting relationships with some of the best Pinot Noir growers and vineyards in the North Coast. Developing upon this passion, history, and experience, second-generation Vintner Hugh Davies, along with Winemakers Sean Thompson, Jessica Koga and J.P. Pierce, present this appellation-designate Pinot Noir wine from the 2022 vintage.

This bottling is a blend from three vineyard sites within the Napa Carneros AVA: Three Amigos, Brown Ranch and Hyde. The grapes from the Carneros region are favorably influenced by the nightly cooling effect from the closely located San Pablo Bay. These cool temperatures allow the fruit to retain its acidity. The vines thrive on three feet of loamy topsoil above an impenetrable clay subsoil, tempering control over the vines nutrient and water supply.

The 2022 growing season was the third year in a row of drought conditions. Warmer and drying temperatures led to an early bud break and lighter crop levels. Hot days leading up to mid-September further hasting ripening. A heat wave during the Labor Day weekend kicked harvest into high gear. This season yielded fruit of excellent quality, characterized by structured, concentrated color, luxurious tannins, and wonderful flavors.

Tasting notes

Our 2022 Napa Valley Carneros Pinot Noir offers a bouquet of plush plum, strawberry, cranberry, and rhubarb, with a touch of allspice, baked pie crust, and forest floor.
