2013 Jones Vineyards Brut Napa Valley Carneros
Influenced by the maritime breezes and fog from the San Pablo Bay on its southern border, Carneros produces some of the regions finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. Dark loamy soils in the flats that lead off to San Pablo Bay provide the vines with wonderful drainage and nutrient control to grow delicious grapes. The vibrant acid structure, bright flavors and complex minerality are common characteristics of the grapes that grow from this vineyard.
There are three distinct Chardonnay clones planted at Jones Vineyard. Clone 4 is known as a workhorse due to its high quality and yields, offering notes of Meyer lemon and crisp grapefruit. It thrives in the Carneros area with its foggy mornings and hot afternoons. Dijon clones 76 and 96 offer high quality fruit with great complexity, structure, and texture. These aromatic and elegant clones are known for uniform fruit set and producing highly concentrated berries with sweet citrus notes.
The 2013 vintage was an ideal season with dry conditions and a long, sunny summer. Early, even and excellent are three words being used to describe the growing season. Harvest ended about two weeks earlier than other Napa Valley harvests in the last decade and yields overall were above average.
With an extended amount of contact with the yeast lees following the second fermentation, this wine has developed a caramelized and toasty richness that enhances the brightly fruitful flavors. We are very proud to have the opportunity to highlight Jones Vineyard in this special bottling.
Tasting notes
The 2013 Jones Vineyard bottling offers a broad expression of the Carneros terroir. Bright aromas of fresh apple, peach and pineapple are complemented by glazed lemon, candied ginger and honey. The juicy center is dense with Granny Smith apple, Mandarin orange and poached pear, with a lingering finish of ginger and baking spice.- Winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies
