This is a 3-pack vertical set consisting of one 750 ml bottle each of our 2015 J. Davies Estate Cabernet, and 2016 J. Davies Estate Cabernet, and a pre-release 750ml bottle of our 2017 J. Davies Estate Cabernet.

The J. Davies Estate vineyard blocks, totaling 41 acres, are laid out in three isolated pockets ranging from 500 to 1,000 feet in elevation. The first two are the original Schram sections, Napa Valley's first hillside vineyards, originally established by Jacob Schram in 1862. The third section is the adjacent McEachran parcel, which was first planted by Colin McEachran in 1878. These are the southernmost vineyards in the Diamond Mountain District AVA. Supported by diverse volcanic soils, flanked by two cool creek canyons (Nash Creek to the north and Ritchie Creek to the south) and surrounded by compact coniferous and deciduous forests, the vines here produce late-ripening, richly concentrated fruit with average yields of just two tons per acre.

Tasting notes

The 2015 J. Davies Estate Cabernet opens with rich aromas of blackberry, cherry and dried floral elements, accentuated by undertones of vanilla, clove and milk chocolate. Integrated tannins anchor the wines well-structured palate, where a concentrated and powerful entry of plum, black currant and raspberry leads to a smooth finish with a touch of cocoa powder and graphite."

Diamond Mountain is one of California's sweet spots for cabernet sauvignon. Situated near the northern tip of the Napa Valley, the warm summer days typically produce full ripeness. The mountain terroir then imparts remarkable structure. The J. Davies 2016 vintage is a prime example, not to mention a wine for the ages. Showing impressive depth and complex aromas of cassis and blackberry, the wine is bold and rich without losing the tension so essential to longevity. Though drinking well now, I would give serious consideration to laying down this vintage for another eight to 10 years for optimum enjoyment.- Robert Whitley, Wine Talk (December 2019)

Blended with 3% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2017 J. Davies Estate
Cabernet Sauvignon is deep garnet-purple in color with scents of plum pudding, spice cake and fresh figs with baked black currants, blackberry pie and tilled soil pplus a hint of dried sage. The palate is full-bodied, firm and grainy with well played freshness and a mineral edge to the finish.

A blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Malbec, 2% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2015 J. Davies Diamond Mountain has a deep garnet-purple color and offers up classic black currant, black plum and mulberry scents with hints of cigar box, yeast extract and bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied with a great core of black berry and earthy layers, the fruit is supported by grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with a pleasant herbal lift.- The Wine Advocate (October 2017)
