"jd" Library Combo Set (12 x 750 mL)
Like its companion J. Davies Estate bottlings, the "jd" Cabernets are crafted solely from the densely-flavored, richly-structured fruit grown on the family’s hillside property. Following the blending of J. Davies, winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies carefully select from the remaining outstanding barrels of wine to craft these offerings. Vibrant and approachable as a young wine, the medium-bodied "jd" is released after two years of aging. These bottles have received an additional amount of bottle aging, allowing the flavors to integrate and blend even more than when the wines were first released.
Bearing the initials of Jack Davies, who along with his wife, Jamie, revived the historic Schramsberg winery property in 1965, it is the product of an intimate knowledge of this place, and a passion to create delicious Cabernet Sauvignon.
The vineyard blocks, totaling 41 acres, are laid out in three isolated pockets ranging from 500 to 1000 feet in elevation. They include the two Schram sections, Napa Valley’s first hillside vineyards, originally established in 1862 by Jacob Schram, and the McEachran parcel, which was first planted by Colin McEachran in 1878. These are the southernmost vineyards in the Diamond Mountain District AVA. Flanked by two cool creek canyons (Nash Creek to the north and Ritchie Creek to the south) and surrounded by compact coniferous and deciduous forests, the vines here produce late-ripening, richly concentrated fruit with average yields of just two tons per acre.

This producer is making some fantastic best-bang-for-your-buck Cabernets. This one (2013 J. Davies "jd" Cabernet) is an excellent case in point, a sultry, sophisticated and elegant take on the variety, with memorable characteristics of chocolate, raspberry and dried herb in the form of bay leaf. Structured and ready for the table, it's a standout.- Wine Enthusiast (October 2016)
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon "jd" from Diamond Mountain is another beautiful wine from the Davies Family. Dense ruby/purple with crème de cassis, licorice and spice, the wine cuts a medium to full bodied mouthfeel, but has superb purity, and impeccable balance. Nothing is out of place, the tannins silky, the acidity offers vibrancy and the fruit is pure and present. This is a beauty to drink over the next 15-20 years.- Wine Advocate (December 2016)
