In celebration of Schramsberg's Sesquicentennial (150th Anniversary), our winemaking team is very excited to present this special, limited bottling: 1997 Late Disgorged J. Schram. It is hard to believe that 150 years have passed since Jacob and Annie Schram founded "Schramsberg", the second bonded winery in the Napa Valley, with the first hillside vineyards and the first wine caves in the region. But we are most thankful that they did. With this beautifully aged offering, we honor the Schrams, we honor Jack and Jamie Davies who revived this extraordinary sight in 1965, and we honor all of those who have helped drive their visions to produce world-class wines. We have come a long way!

With almost 15 years of contact on the yeast, in the bottle, in our historic Diamond Mountain Caves, this sparkling wine has developed exquisite richness, depth and complexity. Extensive aging "en tirage" enables savory, nutty and seasoned attributes to evolve with fruitful caramelization, density and creaminess on the palate. With great enthusiasm, we present this one-of-a-kind offering of our Chardonnay-based tete de cuvée, J. Schram, blended from the best of our Chardonnay vineyards. A limited number of bottles of this wine are being made available to celebrate this special year in our history.

Tasting notes

Bursting with youthful vitality, the 1997 J. Schram LD shows vibrant aromas of baked green apple, lime and crystallized pineapple. Aromatic depth is further accentuated by refined, aged notes of marzipan, celery salt, crème brûlée, and freshly baked baguette. Crisp and refined on entry, exhibiting generous fruitful flavors of peach, green apple and mandarin orange, the palate finishes with a long, lingering acidity. The 1997 J. Schram LD can certainly be enjoyed now, but will continue to develop and build character for many years to come.- Keith Hock and Hugh Davies
