Made in a Blanc de Blancs style, focused only on the Chardonnay grape, this very crisp, dry sparkling wine showcases our very best vineyards in the small Sonoma County Green Valley AVA. With only 1% of the planted grapes in the county, Green Valley is quite unique. Being only 8.5 miles away from the Pacific Ocean, it is one of the coolest appellations within Sonoma County. The predominant soil type of this AVA is Goldridge, which is particularly valuable for high-quality wine grape production. Due to this soil’s superb drainage and low fertility, it gives the grape growers more control in the vineyards, yielding higher quality grapes. These combined climatic and soil conditions allow for excellent flavor development and acid retention in the grapes.

While we have previously offered a Brut Sonoma Coast bottling, this is the first time we have produced a sparkling wine that is solely from the fruit grown in the “Green Valley” viticultural appellation. This bright, crisp sparkler will age beautifully, evolving for 20+ years to come with attractive caramelized, nutty and toasted flavor attributes.

With over three years of aging en tirage, this vibrant and complex wine combines a rich texture with excellent drive on the palate. Highlighting our very best 2009 vintage lots of from this exceptional viticultural region, we are very excited to release this singular sparkling wine.

Tasting notes

The 2009 Brut Sonoma County Green Valley has bursting aromas of Gravenstein apple, fresh apricot and sweet lime. The fruitful nose is complemented by notes of warm sourdough and almond. On the palate, there are flavors of guava, tangerine and lemon. Crisp on entry, the wine finishes with long, lingering acidity.- Winemakers Keith Hock and Hugh Davies
