2023 "Keefer Ranch" Pinot Noir (1 X 750 ML)

The Davies family, of Schramsberg Vineyards and Davies Vineyards in the Napa Valley, is proud to release its fourth Pinot Noir release from the Keefer Ranch. The familys experience with Pinot Noir dates back to 1967, when Jack and Jamie Davies first used this elegant red varietal to make their first vintage of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine. Over the 58 years following that first use, Schramsbergs winemakers have built long-lasting relationships with some of the best Pinot Noir growers and vineyards in the North Coast. Developing upon this passion, history, and experience, second-generation Vintner Hugh Davies, along with Winemakers Sean Thompson, Jessica Koga and JP Pierce, presents this estate vineyard-designate Pinot Noir wine from the 2023 vintage.

The Keefer Ranch is located along the Green Valley Creek in the Russian River Valley. The vineyard is planted on gently sloping, south-facing Goldridge Loam soil. Well drained throughout the growing season, this ground is moderately vigorous, ideally suited for the growth of densely concentrated Pinot Noir wine grapes. The vineyard profits from a long, cool hang time resulting in fruit with outstanding color, extraction, and balanced tannins. Keefer Ranch Pinot Noir delivers ripe cherry, bright cranberry, sweet spice, lively acidity, soft tannins, and supple texture. The Davies family had been purchasing grapes for its sparkling program from the Keefer Ranch vineyard since 1998, and was able to add the Pinot Noir red wine to its program with the purchase of the property in 2018.

The 2023 Sonoma Coast vintage brought bountiful yields and exceptional quality. Plentiful winter rain after years of drought led to a mild spring and milder summer. This delayed veraison and harvest, allowing for extended hang time and enhanced flavor development. Generous yields delivered outstanding fruit quality throughout the region.

Tasting notes

Our 2023 Keefer Ranch Pinot Noir exhibits delicate notes of violet, raspberry leaf, wild sage, and cardamom, interwoven with black tea and mint. On the palate, a broad and juicy red fruit core is balanced by a light herbal touch and clean, refreshing acidity. The finish leaves a warm trace of cinnamon spice that lingers gracefully.- Winemakers J.P. Pierce, Jessica Koga, Sean Thompson, Hugh Davies
