2023 "Dutton Ranch" Pinot Noir (1 x 750 mL)

The Davies family, of Schramsberg Vineyards and Davies Vineyards in the Napa Valley, is proud to release its third Pinot Noir from the Dutton Ranch Vineyards in the Russian River Valley. The family's experience with Pinot Noir dates back to 1967, when Jack and Jamie Davies first used this elegant red varietal to make their first vintage of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine. Over the 58 years following that first use, Schramsberg's winemakers have built longlasting relationships with some of the best Pinot Noir growers and vineyards in the North Coast. Developing upon this passion, history, and experience, second-generation Vintner Hugh Davies, along with Winemakers Sean Thompson, Jessica Koga and JP Pierce, presents this vineyard-designate Pinot Noir wine from the 2023 vintage.

The Dutton Hallberg and Perry Ranch vineyards are nestled within the Green Valley AVA of Russian River Valley. This cool, coastal valley allows vines to benefit from morning fog and afternoon breezes. This microclimate creates a natural air-conditioning effect, affording a longer growing season and slow, even ripening of fruit. The region's soils,
predominantly Goldridge series, are a combination of sandy loam and clay, known for its low fertility and excellent drainage, fostering optimal root development and grape flavor concentration. These exceptional climatic and soil conditions combine to produce exquisite Pinot Noir wines with complexity, elegance, and a distinct sense of place.

The 2023 Sonoma vintage brought bountiful yields and exceptional quality. Plentiful winter rain after years of drought led to a mild spring and milder summer. This delayed veraison and harvest, allowing for extended hang time and enhanced flavor development. Generous yields delivered outstanding fruit quality throughout the region.

Tasting notes

Our 2023 Dutton Ranch Pinot Noir presents aromas of red apple skin, dried raspberry, and baking spice, lifted by delicate violet and a subtle thread of black tea. Flavors of red plum and Bing cherry are supported with a light floral character and lean, focused acidity. Notes of brown sugar and Christmas spice emerge mid-palate, leading to a finish that is driven by textural tannins.- Winemakers J.P. Pierce, Jessica Koga, Sean Thompson, Hugh Davies
