2022 "Hyde Vineyards" Pinot Noir (1X 750 ml)

The Davies family of Schramsberg Vineyards and Davies Vineyards in the Napa Valley is pleased to release the 2022 vintage of its Hyde Vineyards Pinot Noir from the Carneros Napa Valley AVA. The familys experience with Pinot Noir dates back to 1967, when Jack and Jamie Davies first used this elegant red varietal to make their inaugural vintage of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine. Over the 57 years following that first use, Schramsbergs winemakers have built long-lasting relationships with some of the best Pinot Noir growers in the North Coast. Developing upon this passion, history, and experience, second-generation Vintner Hugh Davies, along with Winemakers Sean Thompson, Jessica Koga and J.P. Pierce, present their ninth Pinot Noir vineyard-designate release from this storied Napa Valley Carneros property.

The Hyde familys Pinot Noir vineyards are planted just north of Highway 12 at the base of the Mayacamas foothills in the Napa Valley Carneros AVA at the southernmost end of the Napa Valley. The grapes are favorably influenced by the nightly cooling effect provided by the closely located San Pablo Bay. The vines on the property thrive on three feet of loamy topsoil above an impenetrable clay subsoil. This soil combination provides superb control over the nutrients and water supply for the vines. The Davies have enjoyed working with the Hydes since 1995 with their sparkling wine program and with Pinot Noir still wine since 2013.

The 2022 growing season was the third year in a row of drought conditions. Warmer and drying temperatures led to an early bud break and lighter crop levels. Hot days leading up to mid-September further hasting ripening. A heat wave during the Labor Day weekend kicked harvest into high gear. This season yielded fruit of excellent quality, characterized by structured, concentrated color, luxurious tannins, and wonderful flavors.
