2022 "Anderson Valley" Pinot Noir (1 x 750 ml)

The Davies family, of Schramsberg Vineyards and Davies Vineyards in the Napa Valley, is pleased to release its fourteenth vintage of Pinot Noir red wines. This Pinot Noir bottling is a blend of the Ferrington and Goorgian Vineyards, located at opposite ends of the Anderson Valley at the southern end of Mendocino County. The familys experience with Pinot Noir dates back to 1967, when Jack and Jamie Davies first used this elegant red varietal to make their inaugural vintage of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine. Over the 57 years following that first use, Schramsbergs winemakers have built long-lasting relationships with some of the best Pinot Noir growers and vineyards in the North Coast. Developing upon this passion, history, and experience, second-generation Vintner Hugh Davies, along with Winemakers Sean Thompson, Jessica Koga and J.P. Pierce present this appellation-designate Pinot Noir wine from the 2022 vintage.

The Ferrington Vineyards property, located approximately 100 miles north of San Francisco and 17 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, is in a fertile pocket of land found at the edge of the northeastern foothills of Mendocino Countys Anderson Valley AVA. Between 360 and 440 feet above sea level, the vines produce approximately 2.5 tons per acre of bright, complex fruit. Goorgian Vineyards is located at the northwestern end of the Anderson Valley, 10 miles east of the Pacific Ocean and situated on steep rocky north-west facing slopes with an elevation ranging from 200-350 feet. From its highest point you can see down to the southeastern end of the valley.

The 2022 growing season began with several weeks of sunny weather, leading to an earlier bud break. After a few years of drought conditions, the harvest started a few weeks earlier than normal and concluded ahead of schedule. Ripening was hastened thanks to lighter crop levels and consistently warm days in late August and early September. The smaller berries and cluster sizes led to exceptional fruit quality, resulting in wine with superb concentration and flavor.

Our 2022 Anderson Valley Pinot Noir has nuanced aromas of pomegranate, plum, and clementine, with subtle hints of brown sugar, violet, and pine resin. The lively entry drives to a supple and spicy palate of layered blackberry and thyme, which is carried by a dynamic acidity to the finish.- Winemakers J.P. This wine is opulent, with aromas of blackberry, black cherry, spice, Tahitian vanilla and notes of potpourri on the nose. The flavors on the palate are strawberry-rhubarb jam, Bing cherry, pink grapefruit peel and dried marjoram wrapped around espresso crema, with silky tannins to finish.
