2021 "NAPA VALLEY CARNEROS" PINOT NOIR (1 X 750 ML)

The Davies family, of Schramsberg Vineyards and Davies Vineyards in the Napa Valley, is pleased to release its sixth vintage of Napa Valley Carneros Pinot Noir. This wine is a blend of Pinot Noir from Poseidon, Hyde, and Brown Ranch vineyards. The familys experience with Pinot Noir dates back to 1967, when Jack and Jamie Davies first used this elegant red varietal to make their inaugural vintage of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine. Over the 56 years following that first use, Schramsbergs winemakers have built long-lasting relationships with some of the best Pinot Noir growers and vineyards in the North Coast. Developing upon this passion, history, and experience, second-generation Vintner Hugh Davies, along with Winemakers Sean Thompson and Jessica Koga, present this appellation-designate Pinot Noir wine from the 2021 vintage.

Poseidon Vineyard can be found at the convergence of Carneros Creek and the Napa River, and is located further south than the Brown Ranch and Hyde vineyard sites. The grapes from the Carneros region are favorably influenced by the nightly cooling effect from the closely located San Pablo Bay. These cool temperatures allow the fruit to retain their acidity. The vines thrive on three feet of loamy topsoil above an impenetrable clay subsoil, tempering control over the vines nutrient and water supply.

The 2021 Napa Valley growing season started with minimal rain. Due to depleted water tables from two years of drought, the vines naturally carried less crop. With smaller berries and clusters, the fruit possessed remarkably concentrated flavors. Harvest started early and ended quickly due to the lighter yields. The dense and delicious Pinot Noir fruit quality of this vintage resulted in exceptional wines.

Tasting notes

This Napa Valley Carneros Pinot Noir has enticing aromas of red cherry, blueberry and dried cranberry. Underlining notes of thyme and white pepper lend an herbal complexity, interweaving with faint traces of cola spice and fresh coffee grounds. The palate offers a vibrant blend of dried cherry, raspberry, Herbs de Provence, and a dash of ginger, with a bright and expansive core that evolves into a broad and juicy finish.- Winemakers Jessica Koga, Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies
