NEW RELEASE: 2019 Keefer Ranch Pinot Noir (1 X 750 ML)

The Davies family of Schramsberg Vineyards and Davies Vineyards in the Napa Valley is pleased to release its first bottling of their Keefer Ranch Pinot Noir. The familys experience with Pinot Noir dates back to 1967, when Jack and Jamie Davies first used this elegant red varietal to make their inaugural vintage of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine. Over the 54 years following that first use, Schramsbergs winemakers have built long-lasting relationships with some of the best Pinot Noir growers in the North Coast. Developing upon this passion, history, and experience, second-generation Vintner Hugh Davies and Director of Winemaking Sean Thompson are proud to present this appellation-designate Pinot Noir wine from the 2019 vintage.

The Keefer Ranch was acquired by Davies Vineyards in 2019, with the purchase of this well-regarded property, ensuring that the delicious fruit from this site will be available far into the future. Located near the headwaters of Green Valley Creek, this site gains all the benifits of gently sloping, well-draining soils and a southern-facing exposure. The Keefer Ranch vines are planted on Goldridge Loam, which is valued for its suitability for growing high-quality Pinot Noir. The vineyard profits from a long, cool hang time resulting in fruit with outstanding color, fruitful extraction and balanced tannins. The Keefer Ranch Pinot Noir grapes show delicious flavors of ripe cherry, cranberry fruit and spice, balanced with lively acidity, soft tannins, supple texture and beautiful structure.

The 2019 growing season had a record winter rainfall, a cool spring, and a summer growing season that was near perfect for Sonoma County winegrapes. Cooler than normal summer temperatures slowed down fruit ripening pushing back harvest in many areas compared to recent seasons. Harvest began in our vineyard

Tasting notes

The 2019 Keefer Ranch Pinot Noir exhibits aromas of cherry, blackberry, cranberry and lavender, with a lingering whisp of strawberry. The palate opens with tangy acidity that drives delicious layers of brambly raspberry, sour cherry, rhubarb and vanilla, with elements of Madagascar vanilla that are supported by intergrated tanins.- Winemakers Sean Thompson, Jessica Koga and Hugh Davies
