2018 NAPA VALLEY CARNEROS PINOT NOIR (1 X 750 ML)
Three Amigos Vineyard is a certified organic and biodynamic Pinot Noir vineyard in the Napa Valley Carneros region. At a short distance from the Napa Marina, it's a cool, foggy, and breezy location that Pinot Noir loves. The Costa del Sol Vineyard is located on Las Amigas Road in the heart of Napa Carneros. The nearly 12-acre vineyard was planted in 2006 to five different Pinot Noir clones. The vines benefit from the cool breeze that blows in from the San Pablo Bay to create wines of balanced complexity and concentrated fruit expression. Hyde Vineyards are planted in the foothills just north of the Carneros Bayview District. The grapes are favorably influenced by the nightly cooling effect from the closely located San Pablo Bay, retaining the wineâs balanced acidity. The vines on the property thrive on three feet of loamy topsoil above an impenetrable clay subsoil. This combination provides control over the nutrients and water supply for the vines.
For the 2018 vintage, early season rains caused both bud break and flowering to start late. However, ideal weather conditions persisted to start the season, creating plentiful and even fruit set. Summer brought generous sun and the cooler marine influences of the Carneros AVA were virtually uninterrupted by major heat spikes. This relatively mild summer was followed by extended fall sunshine and moderate heat. These near-ideal conditions resulted in superb grape quality, with complex flavors and balanced acidity.
Tasting notes
The 2018 Napa Carneros Pinot Noir features inviting aromas of dried strawberry, cherry, wheat toast and cranberry-rhubarb, followed with a touch of cinnamon. The palate engages a ripe red berry center, with flavors of plum, milk chocolate and dried blueberry supported by a tangy acidity.- Winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies
Reviews
93 PointsDelicate and rose petaled, this soft, supple red wine is light in strawberry and cherry flavor. It takes on a more robust weight and mouthfeel on the midpalate, building to a spicy, acid-driven finish marked by lovely, lingering notes of chocolate.- Wine Enthusiast (May 2021)
