2017 Piedra Libre Vineyards Pinot Noir ( 1 X 750 ML)
The Piedra Libre Vineyards property, centered approximately 45 miles north of San Francisco and 8 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, is sited among the forests of the rolling hills between Sebastopol and Bodega Bay. Located between 250 and 500 feet above sea level, the vineyards are planted in Goldridge sandy loam soil, a fine grain soil with little fertility, which gives the grower full control of nutrients and minerals provided to the vine. The site enjoys morning fog and partial sunny days. This, along with the cool ocean breeze, moderates the temperature and allows the fruit to mature steadily throughout the growing season.

This Pinot Noir starts off with pleasant aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, boysenberry, dark chocolate, and black pepper. The palate combines Bing cherry, strawberry, red plum, and coffee, all layered on a backbone of ginger and dried orange peel.- Winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies
Reviews
93 PointsThe medium ruby-purple colored 2017 Pinot Noir Piedra Libre was aged 15 months in 30% new oak. The nose o ers inviting aromas of cranberry jelly, baked rhubarb and blueberry hints with nuances of black tea leaves and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate has loads of ripe red and black fruits with spicy accents, a grainy frame and just enough freshness on the long finish.- Wine Advocate (August 2020)

Crushed rose petals and a brambly array of fresh berries, laced with forest wood and spice. The palate has very supple, smoothly building, layered tannins and a fresh core of bright red cherries.- James Suckling (September 2019)
91 Points
Earthy and spicy, this wine is intensely flavored and textured, offering a juicy midpalate of pomegranate and crisp orange. From a site only eight miles from the ocean, it shows a thickness of tannin and minerality, with hints of forest floor and stone.- Wine Enthusiast (March 2020)
