2017 NAPA VALLEY CARNEROS PINOT NOIR (1 X 750 ML)

The Davies family of Schramsberg Vineyards and Davies Vineyards in the Napa Valley is pleased to release its third vintage of Napa Valley Carneros Pinot Noir. This wine is a blend of Pinot Noir from Three Amigos, Costa del Sol, and Hyde Vineyards. The familys experience with Pinot Noir dates back to 1967, when Jack and Jamie Davies first used this elegant red varietal to make their inaugural vintage of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine. Over the 52 years following that first use, Schramsbergs winemakers have built long-lasting relationships with some of the best Pinot Noir growers in the North Coast. Developing upon this passion, history, and experience, second-generation Vintner Hugh Davies and Senior Winemaker Sean Thompson are proud to present this appellation-designate Pinot Noir wine from the 2017 vintage.

Three Amigos Vineyard is a certified organic and biodynamic Pinot Noir vineyard in the Napa Valley Carneros region. At a short distance from the Napa Marina, its a cool, foggy, and breezy location that Pinot Noir loves. The Costa del Sol Vineyard is located on Las Amigas Road in the heart of Napa Carneros. The nearly 12-acre vineyard was planted in 2006 to five different Pinot Noir clones. The vines benefit from the cool breeze that blows in from the San Pablo Bay to create wines of balanced complexity and concentrated fruit expression. Hyde Vineyards are planted in the foothills just north of the Carneros Bayview District. The grapes are favorably influenced by the nightly cooling effect from the closely located San Pablo Bay, retaining the wines balanced acidity. The vines on the property thrive on three feet of loamy topsoil above an impenetrable clay subsoil. This combination provides control over the nutrients and water supply for the vines.

Tasting notes

This Pinot Noir features inviting aromas of black plum, black cherry, roasted coffee, and nutmeg that gently rise from the glass. The palate engages a brambly center, supported by flavors of strawberry, red cherry, and dried orange peel, further accompanied by supple tannins.- Winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies

Blended with 3% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2017 J. Davies Estate
Cabernet Sauvignon is deep garnet-purple in color with scents of plum pudding, spice cake and fresh figs with baked black currants, blackberry pie and tilled soil pplus a hint of dried sage. The palate is full-bodied, firm and grainy with well played freshness and a mineral edge to the finish.
