The Davies family of Schramsberg Vineyards and Davies Vineyards in the Napa Valley is pleased to release the 2016 vintage of their Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. This wine is a blend crafted from the Piedre Libre and Nobles vineyards. The familys experience with Pinot Noir dates back to 1967, when Jack and Jamie Davies first used this elegant red varietal to make their inaugural vintage of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine. Over 51 years following that first use, Schramsbergs winemakers have built long-lasting relationships with some of the best Pinot Noir growers in the North Coast. Developing upon this passion, history, and experience, second-generation Vintner Hugh Davies and Director of Winemaking Sean Thompson are proud to present this delicious appellation-designate Pinot Noir wine from the 2016 vintage.

The Vineyards
Nobles Vineyard produces Pinot Noir with vibrant red berry flavors and a supple, layered texture. The vineyards are on the eastern slopes of the second mountain ridge in from the Pacific Ocean, between 950 and 1,050 feet above sea level. Piedra Libre Vineyards is surrounded by the forests of the rolling hills between Sebastopol and Bodega Bay. Located between 250 and 500 feet above sea level, the vineyards are planted in Goldridge sandy loam soil, a fine grain soil with little fertility, which gives the grower full control of nutrients and minerals provided to the vine.

Tasting notes

This Pinot Noir engages with aromas of cherry, cranberry, cinnamon, fig and dried orange peel. The full palate is richly textured with a juicy entry and flavors of black plum, cherry, black tea and tarragon.- Winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies
