The Davies family of Schramsberg Vineyards and Davies Vineyards in the Napa Valley is pleased to release its second vintage of Napa Valley Carneros Pinot Noir. This wine is a blend of Pinot Noir from Cuvaison and Hyde Vineyards. The familys experience with Pinot Noir dates back to 1967, when Jack and Jamie Davies first used this elegant red varietal to make their inaugural vintage of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine. Over the 51 years following that first use, Schramsbergs winemakers have built long-lasting relationships with some of the best Pinot Noir growers in the North Coast. Developing upon this passion, history, and experience, second-generation Vintner Hugh Davies and Senior Winemaker Sean Thompson are proud to present this appellation-designate Pinot Noir wine from the 2016 vintage.

The Vineyards
Cuvaison Vineyards produce grapes on its estate vineyard in the Napa Valley Carneros. Cooled by fog from the San Pablo Bay, the rolling hills of this certified sustainable property have produced distinctive Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for over 30 years. The vineyard currently has 210 planted acres featuring state-of-the-art viticultural methods and materials, including higher vine density, modern trellising, and has evolved through a constant process of refinement. Hyde Vineyards are planted in the foothills just north of the Carneros Bayview District. As with the neighboring Cuvaison Vineyards, the grapes are favorably influenced by the nightly cooling effect from the closely located San Pablo Bay, retaining the wines balanced acidity. The vines on the property thrive on three feet of loamy topsoil above an impenetrable clay subsoil. This combination provides control over the nutrients and water supply for the vines.

Tasting notes

This Pinot Noir features inviting aromas of cherry, vanilla, cranberry, lavender, and cassis that gently rise from the glass. The palate engages a juicy center, supported by flavors of brambly raspberry, strawberry, black pepper and mint, along with floral notes.- Winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies

Reviews

91 Points
From fruit grown at both Cuvaison and Hyde vineyards, this is a celebration of the appellation, with pleasing, earthy cardamom and a touch of mint. Dark cherry, vanilla and orange flavors layer around moderate oak and acidity, forming a fruit-friendly complex whole.- Wine Enthusiast (December 2018)
