The Davies family of Schramsberg Vineyards and Davies Vineyards in the Napa Valley is pleased to release the 2016 vintage of its Hyde Vineyards Pinot Noir. The familys experience with Pinot Noir dates back to 1967, when Jack and Jamie Davies first used this elegant red varietal to make their inaugural vintage of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine. Over the 51 years following that first use, Schramsbergs winemakers have built long-lasting relationships with some of the best Pinot Noir growers in the North Coast. Developing upon this passion, history, and experience, second-generation Vintner Hugh Davies and Director of Winemaking Sean Thompson are proud to present their third Pinot Noir vineyard-designate release from this storied Napa Valley Carneros property.

The Vineyard
The Hyde familys Pinot Noir vineyards are planted just north of Highway 12 at the base of the Mayacamas foothills in the Napa Valley Carneros AVA at the southernmost end of the Napa Valley. The grapes are favorably influenced by the nightly cooling effect provided by the closely located San Pablo Bay. The vines on the property thrive on three feet of loamy topsoil above an impenetrable clay subsoil. This soil combination provides superb control over the nutrients and water supply for the vines. The Davies have enjoyed working with the Hydes since the 1995, with their sparkling wine program, and are excited to expand this relationship with Pinot Noir still wine.

Tasting notes

This Pinot Noir emits beautiful aromas of lifted berry fruit, cranberry and cinnamon combined with a touch of black tea and cola spice. It offers flavors of tart cherry, red plum, and raspberry, and extends with a silky backbone with vanilla and nutmeg.- Winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies

Pale to medium ruby-purple colored, the 2016 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyards has a very pretty perfume of kirsch, pomegranate, red roses and rhubarb with touches of lavender and forest floor.
