The Davies family of Schramsberg Vineyards and J. Davies Estate in the Napa Valley is pleased to release the 2015 vintage of their Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. This wine is a blend crafted from the Piedre Libre and Nobles vineyards. The family’s experience with Pinot Noir dates back to 1967, when Jack and Jamie Davies first used this elegant red varietal to make their inaugural vintage of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine. Over the 50 years following that first use, Schramsberg’s winemakers have built long-lasting relationships with some of the best Pinot Noir growers in the North Coast. Developing upon this passion, history, and experience, second-generation Vintner Hugh Davies and Director of Winemaking Sean Thompson are proud to present this delicious appellation-designate Pinot Noir wine.

The Vineyards
Piedra Libre Vineyards is surrounded by the forests of the rolling hills between Petaluma and Bodega Bay. Located between 250 and 500 feet above sea level, the vineyards are planted in Goldridge sandy loam soil, a fine grain soil with little fertility, which gives the grower full control of nutrients and minerals provided to the vine.

Nobles Vineyard produces Pinot Noir with vibrant red berry flavors and a supple, layered texture. The vineyards are on the eastern slopes of the second mountain ridge in from the Pacific Ocean, between 950 and 1,050 feet above sea level.

Tasting notes

The Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir engages with aromas of raspberry, black currant, coffee, cedar and baking spice. The palate is richy textured with flavors of black plum, cherry and dense fruit that lead to a concentrated, lively finish.- Winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies

Reviews

91 Points
This lovely wine has a baked aspect to the fruit that makes it warm and welcoming. It's otherwise edgy in high-toned characteristics of rhubarb, cranberry, orange and forest floor, with bolts of cardamom throughout. Complex, the oak is prominent yet integrated.- Wine Enthusiast (March 2018)
