The Davies family of Schramsberg Vineyards and J. Davies Estate in the Napa Valley is pleased to release the 2015 vintage of Hyde Vineyards Pinot Noir. The family’s experience with Pinot Noir dates back to 1967, when Jack and Jamie Davies first used this elegant red varietal to make their inaugural vintage of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine. Over the 50 years following that first use, Schramsberg’s winemakers have built long-lasting relationships with some of the best Pinot Noir growers in the North Coast. Developing upon this passion, history, and experience, second-generation Vintner Hugh Davies and Director of Winemaking Sean Thompson are proud to present their second Pinot Noir vineyard-designate release from this storied Napa Valley Carneros property.

The Vineyard
The Hyde family’s Pinot Noir vineyards are planted just north of Highway 12 at the base of the Mayacamas foothills in the Napa Carneros AVA. Located at the southernmost end of the Napa Valley, the grapes are favorably influenced by the nightly cooling effect from the closely located San Pablo Bay. The vines on the property thrive on three feet of loamy topsoil above an impenetrable clay subsoil. This soil combination provides superb control over the nutrients and water supply for the vines. The Davies have enjoyed working with the Hydes since the 1995, with their sparkling wines program, and is excited to be expanding this relationship with Pinot Noir still wine.

Tasting notes

The 2015 Hyde Vineyards Pinot Noir emits beautiful aromas of black cherry, raspberry and orange zest, combined with a touch of nutmeg and milk chocolate. The -wine offers a juicy midpalate with flavors of plum, chocolate covered strawberry, black tea and clove, and it extends with a plush and silky finish.- Winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies

The producer's second release from this famous site, this wine is beautifully balanced and bright, with nuanced layers of depth. Cherry, cola spice and forest floor mingle effortlessly in the glass, as the palate remains silky soft.- Wine Enthusiast (February 2018)

Medium to deep ruby-purple colored, the 2015 Pinot Noir Hyde Carneros has a wonderfully earthy/savory nose over a core of red currants and black cherries with a touch of black pepper. Medium-bodied, fresh and pure, the palate has a nice firm, grainy backbone and well-played acidity with plenty of expressive red berry and earthy flavors, finishing long.- Wine Advocate (October 2017)

Precise, ripe cherry fruit sits center stage in both the expansive aromas and moderately deep flavors of this well-focused Pinot, and, while still very young, it already impresses with its sense of polish and careful composition. It is not a dramatic wine of great potency and extract, but it is a persistent and varietally confident one, and, although inviting and wholly delicious stuff right now, it has the vitality and deft balance to age effortlessly for some three to five years.- Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (October 2017)
