The Davies family of Schramsberg Vineyards and J. Davies Estate in the Napa Valley is pleased to release its fourth vintage of still wines made from Pinot Noir. The family’s experience with Pinot Noir dates back to 1967, when Jack and Jamie Davies first used this elegant red varietal to make their inaugural vintage of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine. Over the 45 years following that first use, Schramsberg’s winemakers have built long-lasting relationships with some of the best Pinot Noir growers in the North Coast. Developing upon this passion, history, and experience, second-generation vintner Hugh Davies and winemaker Sean Thompson are proud to present this vineyard-designate Pinot Noir wine from the 2012 vintage.

Vineyard
Spring Hill Vineyard is located in the Petaluma Gap, 30 miles north of the city of San Francisco and 15 miles from the cool Pacific Ocean. The vineyard slopes from an elevation of 445 feet to 520 feet above sea level. To maximize the sun exposure during the daylight hours, the vines were planted to a true north/south orientation. Evening fog and winds cool down the vineyards at night, creating a beneficial temperature range difference that aids in developing intense fruitful flavors, while maintaining bright acidic balance in the Pinot Noir grapes grown here.

Tasting notes

Aromas of mixed red berry compote seasoned with ginger, brown sugar, and vanilla gently arise from the glass. The vibrant palate interplays the balance of loganberry, chocolate and Montmorency cherries and is sustained by a firm finish.- Winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies
