The Davies family, proprietors of Schramsberg Vineyards and the J. Davies Estate in Napa Valley, presents its first vintage of Davies Vineyards Renteria 360 Cabernet Sauvignon. Expanding on knowledge gained through the production of the J. Davies Cabernet Sauvignon wines from the Diamond Mountain estate, this bottling offers an in-depth exploration of the Renteria 360 Vineyard located in the Oakville Appellation, within the Napa Valley.

The Oakville AVA extends over a flat expanse of well-drained gravel soil between the Vaca and Mayacamas Mountains. The soil of the Oakville AVA is the result of sedimentary deposits from the hills that form Napa Valley. The soil is gravelly and sandy, with exceptionally good drainage. What makes Oakville's climate distinctive is its transitional, mid-valley location. Oakville is just far enough south to receive regular morning fog from the San Pablo bay, which slows the warming early in the day. But after the fog blows off by mid-morning, Oakville receives the full benefit of the Napa Valley sun. When afternoon temperatures begin to peak, the bay blows cool breezes north to begin this cooling cycle.

The Renteria family has been farming in the Napa Valley since 1962. The Renteria 360 Vineyard is located on the north end of Oakville, at the border of Rutherford, just off the Silverado trail. The nearly 60-acre vineyard was planted in 2012 and is comprised of multiple blocks with different clone and rootstock combinations. This wine is crafted from three distinct blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon clones 4, 15, and 169 - combined they create a wine rich in depth, color, and flavor.

For the 2017 vintage, abundant winter rains prior to the growing season helped recharge reservoirs and groundwater. Spring weather was cool to mild, with increased vine vigor and extended flowering in some areas. Over Labor Day weekend, high temperatures kicked harvest into high gear until mid-September, when cooler weather arrived giving red varieties extra hang time.
