The Davies family, proprietors of Schramsberg Vineyards and J. Davies Estate in Napa Valley, presents its first vintage of the Round Pond Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon. Expanding from the knowledge gained through the production of the J. Davies Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from Diamond Mountain, this bottling is an exploration of a new Napa Valley vineyard site for us.

Each vineyard site provides the winemaking team unique flavor characteristics from the varietal, allowing them the opportunity to produce a wine that is strikingly different than the J. Davies Estate wine, while still delicious and singular to the vineyard from which it came. We are proud to present this vineyard-designate Cabernet Sauvignon wine from the 2012 vintage.

The Vineyards
Located in the Rutherford sub-appellation of Napa Valley, Round Pond Vineyards are grown in fertile alluvial soil deposits - the result of flooding from the nearby Napa River and Conn Creek over thousands of years. With moderately warm summer days on the valley floor, the vineyards, which sit at about 200 feet above sea level, receive ample sun and heat to allow the grapes to slowly develop and ripen throughout the growing season. Fog rolls in nightly, cooling the grapes and lending a balanced acidity in the finished wine. This vineyard is designated in the Napa Certified Green Land program, reflecting great efforts taken to protect and enhance the regional watershed.

Tasting notes

This Round Pond Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits dark perfumed aromas of blueberry compote combined with cocoa, earth, and licorice. The palate is lively, complex and fruitful. Flavors of boysenberry and sour cherry cobbler mingle with volcanic dust and brown sugar, all seamlessly brought together with fully integrated tannins that sustain a long and youthful finish.- Winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies
