The Davies family, proprietors of Schramsberg Vineyards and J. Davies Estate Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley, presents its first vintage of the Davies Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Expanding from the knowledge gained through the production of the J. Davies Estate wines on Diamond Mountain, this bottling offers a broader exploration of the Napa Valley. A diverse blend of vineyards, ranging from valley floor to both the Mayacamas and Vaca mountain ranges, provided the winemaking team a compendium of select lots with which to craft this unique 2012 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Vineyards
The Diamond Mountain District vineyards, on the Mayacamas mountain range, span from approximately 500 to 1,000 feet in elevation. They include the three parcels in the J. Davies Estate hillside vineyards program, and these were the first hillside vineyards planted in the Napa Valley. The vines from these sites are low-yielding, with balance, structure and rich flavors. The second vineyard site is found on Atlas Peak, on the Vaca mountain range, where the cooler vineyard site produces a bright and acidic fruitful quality. The vineyard on the valley floor is situated near the city of Calistoga, in northern Napa, where the lower volcanic slopes of Mount Saint Helena rise out of the valley's alluvial floor These grapes provide a dark richness in the wine that rounds out the palate.

Tasting notes

The 2012 Napa Valley Cabernet opens with vibrant aromas of raspberry and fresh Bing cherry, accentuated by vanilla, and black tea. At first impression, indulgent flavors of cranberries and dark chocolate cherry tart emphasize its aromas which are then supported by a youthful finish.- Winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies

92 Points
Davies Vineyards’ flagship wine is the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon (94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot) from Napa. Its dark ruby/purple color is followed by a complex bouquet of underbrush, spring flowers, blueberries, black raspberries and blackcurrants. The color is a healthy dense ruby/purple. The wine possesses good acidity and freshness and a boatload of complexity. There is no shortage of richness or concentration in this elegantly-styled Cabernet. Drinkable now because of the vintage character, yet it should age nicely for 15+ years.- Wine Advocate (October 2014)
