Made in a Blanc de Noirs style, focused on the Pinot Noir grape, the 2011 Brut Marin County showcases our very best vineyards from the Marin County AVA. Marin is bordered on three sides by water, including the cool Pacific Ocean and San Pablo Bay and San Francisco Bay. This marine influence keeps summer temperatures moderately cool during the hottest part of the day, affording a slower ripening of the fruit and longer development on the vine. The Marin fruit retains outstanding acid and superb structure, while building up delicious flavors and ripeness. While primarily Pinot Noir, small amounts of select Chardonnay lots are added to the blend to lend additional backbone and length to the palate.

Though we first harvested fruit from Marin back in 1998, this is our inaugural release of a sparkling wine that is designated "Brut Marin", highlighting this just emerging appellation. With almost three years of agin "en tirage", this vibrant and complex wine combines a rich texture with excellent drive on the palate. This bright, crisp sparkler will age beautifully over the next 20+ years, developing attractive caramelized, nutty and toasted flavors and aromas. Made in limited quantities, our winemaking team is very excited to release this sparkling wine.

Tasting notes

The 2011 Brut Marin County has generous aromas of orange and apricot, followed by lemon custard and the freshness of a summer peach cobbler. The flavors are equally as generous with a mix of fresh citrus, white peach, and pineapple upside down cake. The palate is delicious and coating on entry with a quenching acidity that is balanced and refreshing.- Winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies
